iParadigms wurde 1996 an der Berkeley University gegründet und beschäftigt sich seitdem mit dem Vergleichen von Textdokumenten und der Entwicklung von Lehrwerkzeugen für die Beurteilung von eingereichten Semesterarbeiten, Referaten, Abschlussarbeiten, Dissertationen, Forschungspublikationen usw.
Turnitin stellt Lehrkräften und Studenten und Schülern eine webbasierte Umgebung zur Verfügung, die die Erstellung und Bewertung von eingereichten Arbeiten in digitaler Form wirksam unterstützt. Die Lehrkräfte werden durch Turnitin in die Lage versetzt, die Bewertung und Beurteilung der eingereichten Arbeiten auf dem Hintergrund der Prüfung der Originalität vorzunehmen. Hierbei steht die pädagogische Anleitung der Studenten zum besseren Schreiben auf dem Hintergrund wissenschaftlicher Integrität und der Respektierung fremden Gedankenguts durch korrektes Zitieren im Vordergrund.
Die Veranstaltung hat zum Ziel die Möglichkeiten, die Turnitin Lehrkräften und Studenten bietet, näher zu beleuchten und praktische Beispiele der Nutzung an verschiedenen Institutionen aufzuzeigen.

iParadigms was founded in 1996, when a group of researchers at UC Berkeley created software to monitor the recycling of research papers in their large, undergraduate classes. Turnitin is a web-based solution that supports teachers, students and pupils in the electronic submission of work. By using Turnitin, teachers are able to grade and mark submitted assignments, and at the same time ensure that the work is original. Turnitin can be used therefore as a pedogogical tool to teach students about correct citation and attribution of sources as well enabling a wider discussion on the issues surrounding plagiarism.
This event aims to show the possibilites that Turnitin offers students and teachers, alongside practical examples of usage from different Institutions.
